MTV, please don't do the Time Warp again...

Let me be the first one to say, I have no clue as to how the hell I haven't blogged about this yet.   Some of you may or may not be aware, but MTV is doing remake of 1975 cult classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."  The two-hour remake will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original.  So yes, that means MTV will be adding music to an already amazing show.  So the film is missing a few from the original stage musical, but MTV is making their own music for it....ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Casting decisions have yet to be announced, but think about it...this is the same television network that gives us shit like The Hills and Date My Mom.  I seriously think my head is going to explode.  I've seen my fair share of productions of RHPS, but there is NO ONE who rocks the fishnet the way Tim Curry does.  There's no bigger asshole than Barry Bostwick, and definitely no bigger slut than Susan Sarandon.
MTV has made claims that the reason a re-make is in order is because of how dated the film is and how it has grossed so much money, it's in need of an update. NO THANKYOU.  The reason RHPS is still as big of a deal now as it was in the 1970's is because of the weirdness and imperfections.  There was nothing like it and there will never be anything like it.  For MTV to try and dip their fingers into something that isn't meant for the MTV generation is absolutely disgusting.

Little known fact about Brittney-Jade here...I am an avid RHPS supporter.  I attend the monthly screenings [as Columbia :)] in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with performances by the fabulous cast of Sensual Daydreams Trying to even fathom of how this production is going to be makes me physically ill.  We complain enough about remakes of films we love, but these are just iconic films that we watch occasionally and own our DVD's of.  What abo
ut a film that is still running the same setups of callouts and midnight showings since the 70's?  How can we let this happen?!  Just try to imagine someone like Lauren Conrad in that purple suit with condom barrettes in her hair or Spencer Pratt in that gold speedo....I'm getting more grossed out by the second.  Who in the world would MTV hit up to be Frank-N-Furtur?  Pete Wentz from Fall out Boy?! Really?!  Thank God, Richard O'Brien isn't cool with this. "I've even heard that they're going to put new songs in," O'Brien told the press. "I wrote the book, the music and the lyrics. Where are they going to get the songs from? Who's going to do that? That's a bit strange isn't it?"

Does MTV have to ruin everything we once thought sacred?  They've already destroyed my generation as well as those to come, and they've slaughtered any hope for original music to make a name for themselves.  No bands have staying power anymore.   It seems that artists have a career for a few years before completely disappearing or having a downward slope.  Hell, if Britney Spears hadn't lost her damn mind, I bet her albums wouldn't have nearly done as well as they did.  This film is going to be a "made for TV" movie, which is like putting a television friendly version of Saw available.  It's just absolutely unheard of.  Whatever idiot came up with this idea needs to be assassinated, but that's just like, my opinion man.

Sing it sister and sing it loud! WTF! I heard there was a remake pending and that induced some reflux, but MTV induced violent retching! FFS like you said the original is still running to packed cinemas AROUND THE GLOBE and there are reasons for this. It is a classic that should not be violated by MTV's dirty little digits! Rant over.

Hot picture of your bad self by the way!

I could not agree with you more. This is absolutely ridiculous. MTV execs should havethe terrible CD's they try to shove down our throats winged at them until they cry.

RHPS is a true cult classic and if Richard O'Brien couldn't come up with a sequel that bettered the original, despite trying with "Shock Treatment" (1981) I seriously doubt that MTV of all people are going to be able to do it, with some half assed remake.

Great post!

I love how they think it needs a remake because it's grossed so much money. Isn't that basically saying, hey it's made so much money that we figured we should get some of it.
I don't know how MTV works in the States but up here in Canada we're always treated to bad reality shows. Didn't MTV show music before?
